28-Year-Old Democrat Cameron Tennyson Announces Congressional Campaign Run in CA-30, Challenging Incumbent Laura Friedman
Los Angeles County, California – On the night of March 11th, Cameron Tennyson, California native and community advocate, announced his campaign for the United States House of Representatives in California’s 30th Congressional District. He held his announcement speech in Glendale, which voters from around the district gathered to hear. Tennyson is running on a platform focused on improving healthcare access, regulating generative AI to protect both clerical & creative workers, and fostering a safer community by abolishing ICE & keeping hostile federal agents out of California.
Tennyson’s life experiences reflect many of the challenges facing Americans today. As the son of a Navy service member and a public school teacher, Cameron is a union worker who has faced lifelong medical challenges, so he understands firsthand the pressures many families face. From healthcare costs to economic uncertainty to the importance of strong labor protections and support for military families, Tennyson has seen firsthand how badly the current systems need to be fixed.
“Too many people in our district are struggling with medical debt, job insecurity, and fear about their future. I’m running because I refuse to sit back while our community and the working class is ignored. Together, we can build a country that works for everyone,” said Tennyson.
Tennyson’s commitment to improving healthcare access is deeply personal. Born with Shone’s Complex, a rare congenital heart disease, he underwent four open-heart surgeries before the age of seven and spent much of his childhood in hospitals. Those early experiences shaped a lifelong commitment to empathy, community service, and helping others navigate difficult circumstances.
Tennyson is also committed to:
- Workers’ Rights: Supporting union membership and stronger labor protections.
- Protecting Hollywood: Supporting legislation to stop monopolistic mergers, keep jobs in LA and regulate AI to protect our local film and TV workers.
- Equality for Underrepresented Groups: Fighting for protections against discrimination and expanding inclusive policies for LGBTQ+ and POC communities.
- Human Rights Abroad: Advocating for justice for the Palestinian people and ensuring U.S. foreign policy aligns with human rights.
